The pressure vessel can be subjected to vacuum or positive gauge pressure conditions.
In a vacuum, heat is primarily transferred by radiation, while in gas-filled conditions under positive gauge pressure, convection also plays a role.
Various gases such as air, nitrogen, helium, carbon dioxide, or others can be used to compare heat transfer behaviors.
A rotary vane pump generates negative pressures down to approximately 0.02 mbar, and compressed air can be used to achieve positive gauge pressures up to about 1 bar.
Pressure measurement is facilitated by two sensors: a Pirani sensor for negative pressure and a piezo-resistive sensor for positive pressure.
Digital displays provide real-time readings of measured values, and data can also be transmitted directly to a PC via USB for further analysis using software.
