(MIXAR) Rifaximin, an antibiotic, is prescribed for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy and traveller’s diarrhoea due to Escherichia coli infections in adults and pediatric patients, 12 years and over.
Unlike other antimicrobials, Rifaximin is not absorbed into the systemic circulation, and it acts specifically in the GIT.
Rifaximin should not be used for the treatment of other infections.
Rifaximin is also prescribed for the treatment of hepatic encephalopathy, hepatic failure and to delay worsening of brain functions.
